Responsibilities

The Senior Segment Marketing Manager:

 

The Senior Segment Marketing Manager is responsible for developing, maintaining, and executing domestic and global segment marketing strategies. The Senior Segment Marketing Manager is responsible for program strategy, demand generation, operational readiness and on-going sales support for defined segment(s) to achieve organizational strategic and financial goals. Customer-focus is a must, and this position is accountable for advocating customer needs related to products, services, and support to drive customer loyalty and sales.  This position requires close interaction and partnership with marketing peers, including Marketing Communications and Product Management.  In addition, this position requires collaboration and partnership across cross-function teams, including domestic and international sales, technical service, sales ops and customer service, and R&D. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must, and the successful candidate will excel at performing individually as well as driving the success of cross-functional teams. This position will report to the Director of Marketing and Business Development.   

 

Essential Functions:

  • Promote a safe work environment.   Enforce and comply with workplace safety procedures for self and Marketing team

Strategy and Planning:

  • Collect, analyze, and share market knowledge that increases revenue, profit and market share for defined segments.  Use insights to influence portfolio strategy, company priorities, and enable short and long-term success in market. 
  • Develop and own annual segment marketing plan in collaboration with marketing and cross-functional peers that enables achievement of organization objectives.  Includes optimizing new product commercialization and life cycle management plans to maximize growth opportunities for assigned segment.  Utilize customer research, competitive intelligence and market insights to create and implement segment marketing plan.
  • Identify and develop Key Opinion Leaders in assigned segment; use external thought leaders to enable intimacy with segment and to support short and long-term strategy development.
  • Develop and manage marketing KPIs that indicate performance to targets and enable continuous improvement for marketing initiatives for assigned segment(s)

Demand Generation, Customer/Sales Advocate, and Achievement of Plan:

  • Define buyer personas and develop compelling market messages (including competitive value propositions) for products and services in assigned segment(s).
  • Partner with Marketing Communications to support segment-based campaigns and communication initiatives by leading segment content marketing strategy and execution. 
    • Own content marketing plan for assigned segment(s).  Create and deliver compelling content via white papers, testimonials, event marketing, blogs, videos, e-books, user-generated content, and other tools.   
    • Drive segment communications and segment-based tools and messaging into Marketing Communications campaign plans and website strategy
    • Identify high ROI opportunities for lead generation and brand development to target segment; collaborate with Marketing Communications to develop and execute segment-based plan.   
  • Develop effective sales tools, training, and other programs for direct and indirect sales channels to dominate and defend core business and leverage new growth opportunities.
    • Create compelling sales presentations and demo scripts
    • Identify product references and testimonials for industry and customer referrals
    • Develop and enhance competitive value propositions, and tools and resources to support
    • Develop and lead training initiatives; includes competitive and industry news
    • Provide front-line sales support to enable wins and share growth; champion customer needs to ensure Helmer provides winning solutions, service and support
  • Ensure success of new product launches through development of segment-based messaging, tools, training, and programs in collaboration with Product Management and Marketing Communications.
  • Accountable for achievement of sales/ margin targets for product line sales in assigned segment; monitors and understands bookings and win/loss information to understand progress to targets, and continuously utilizes this information to enhance segment marketing plan. 

Other responsibilities:

 

  • Oversee or mentor marketing personnel as assigned.
  • Manage assigned budget
  • Participate in department and individual team member development
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

Relative Work Experience

  • 8+ years of marketing management experience in a healthcare/life sciences related field
  • Extensive experience in all aspects of developing and maintaining product and segment marketing strategies to meet organizational objectives
  • Previous experience with department budget, annual product forecast, and pricing
  • Experience developing and utilizing marketing KPIs to drive continuous improvement

Education:  Bachelor’s degree required.

Certifications / Licenses:  None required.

Computer Systems / Software:  Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, experience using CRM as growth tool

Key Competencies:

  • Willingness to travel with 15% travel required
  • Strong understanding of clinical and/or research laboratory capital equipment markets, product applications, and equipment regulatory requirements preferred
  • Demonstrate marketing skills and product knowledge of capital equipment applications within the domestic and international Clinical and Research markets
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
