Responsibilities

The Buyer: Supports the purchasing function through purchasing goods and services from approved vendors. Negotiates

agreements with suppliers. Supports the purchasing function through purchasing goods and services from approved

vendors.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

  • Promotes Helmer values as demonstrated in personal productivity and quality of work, management of internal/external relationships, actively seeking out and participating in Continuous Improvementpractices, and willingness to engage and support team initiatives.
  • Comply with workplace safety procedures.
  • Reviews requisitions for accurateness and creates purchase orders from them to purchase items.
  • Creates purchase orders from MRP/ERP computer messages. Prepares and evaluates Requests for Quotation (RFQ). Daily follow-up on orders past due.
  • Source new and existing items; MRO and production. Interfaces with various departments on material needs.
  • Negotiate, purchase order terms and conditions as well short and long-term agreements. Utilize 80/20 rule to set-up blanket orders with suppliers.
  • Initiate and implement successful supply chain management strategies; kanbans, integrated supply, EDI, lean manufacturing, process/continuous improvements.
  • Build supplier/customer relationships through written, verbal and face to face meetings., including quarterly business reviews with critical suppliers. Evaluate current and prospective suppliers forbest service, quality, delivery and price. Maintain supplier and item information in database in compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements. Manage delivery and expedites in order to meet production needs and coordinate with Quality on supplier related quality issues.
  • Other duties/responsibilities and projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Relative Work Experience:   At least one year purchasing experience in manufacturing or shipping/logistics company required.  Internships in related areas will be considered as experience for candidates with Bachelor’s degree in related field.

 

Education:   High School Diploma.  Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred.

 

Certifications / Licenses: None required. CPSM, SPM, APICS preferred

 

Computer Systems / Software: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (MRP/ERP, FourthShift experience preferred).
